An award to recognize and honour Individuals who have done exceptionally well in different aspects of Cycling in North East India and Institutions / Organisations that encourage cycling in Guwahati.

Need for the Award
As a mode of urban commute, Cycles have been known to be potent, practical and sustainable climate change mitigation tool. It also helps in reducing pollution and congestion levels in cities.
But there are many challenges in the mass adaptability of this idea; chief among them are public perception, policy oversight, lack of infrastructure and negative opinion.
Despite the challenges there has been a renewed interest in cycling as a recreational activity, sports, tourism and adventure, commute, and business opportunities more so after the covid pandemic.
We believe the efforts of people, both at individual and institutional levels, who have contributed in different aspects of cycling needs to be recognised and honoured.
Our vision is that with such recognition and honour more people will feel encouraged and get motivated to promote or take up cycling for commute, sports, entrepreneurship, innovate, do social good and also invest in cycling infrastructure.

Most Accomplished Sports Cyclist - M & F. One among all NE States in the 3 disciplines (Track, Road & MTB)
(Individual)
Stage 1 - (Recommendation) The name of the cyclists (Male & Female) achieving the highest rank in the 3 cycling disciplines recognised by UCI or CFI in the previous years (2020 to 2022), will be sought from each recognised State Cycling Association/Body and will be put up for Jury Deliberation. This stage is now closed.
Stage 2 - (Jury Decision). The Jury will assess the recommended names and give them points based on the position attained or podium finishes during the said period. The cyclists achieving the highest points will be honored with the "Most Accomplished Sports Cyclist of NE Award." for each of the 3 disciplines This stage will take place in October 2023.
Most Popular Recreational Cyclist One for each of the 8 States and One among all NE States
Someone who is a recreational cyclist and well known person in the cycling communities, groups and clubs.
(Individual)
Stage 1 - (Nomination) The name of a person for the award can be nominated by self or by others. Please provide as much information you have to help us prepare a good profile. Ask others to nominate you as well. This stage is now closed.
Stage 2 - (Jury Decision). The profiles/name of top 5 person receiving the highest nominations (by other people), with proper descriptions, from each state will be put up for Jury assessment. The person getting the highest Jury points will win. This stage will take place in October 2023.
Cycle Innovator of the Year in NE. One among all the 8 states
Someone who has designed a new cycle or some components of a cycle to enhance its capabilities. Cycle body modifications to make it look good are not innovations.

Special Accomplishment - in or using Cycles in NE Top 3 selected from among all the 8 NE states
Someone who has accomplished something worthwhile for the society or environment or has encouraged people towards a particular important cause in or using cycles. The person should be one who uses or keeps the cycle in focus.

Step 2 - (Jury Decision). The profiles of top 5 person receiving the highest nominations (by other people), with proper descriptions, from each state, will be put up for Jury assessment. The top 3 person getting the highest Jury points will win. This stage will take place in October 2023.
Most Regular Cycle Commuter of Guwahati - Captive/ Livelihood/ Economically weak Cyclist (a person who does not own or have access to or cannot afford any other mode of transport) - M & F in Guwahati
This is for people who ride their cycle for their livelihood who do not have any other means of transport and one who does not have enough education or financial resources to own or operate a smart phone and sports tracking app like strava.

Recognizing individuals who excel in cycling can inspire others to strive for excellence in their own cycling pursuits. This can motivate more people to take up cycling as a sport and contribute to the growth of the cycling community.

The award can raise awareness about the benefits of cycling and encourage more people to take up cycling. The media coverage and publicity generated by the event can reach a wide audience and inspire them to explore cycling as a mode of transportation or recreation.
Encourage Good Practices
Recognizing organisations that encourage cycling can encourage other organizations to follow their lead and adopt similar practices. This can lead to a positive cycle where more and more organizations promote cycling leading to increase in the number of people who choose cycling.

The award ceremony can bring together individuals and organisations from the overall larger community, leading to the formation of new partnerships and collaborations. This can help in sharing best practices, knowledge sharing, and promoting cycling as a community.
Terms & Conditions
There are no fees for applying for the Award.
One can not apply for more than one Award category in a year.
Only participants who are shortlisted for the final round will be provided with a certificate of appreciation. There will be no certificates of participation.
Only people from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura are eligible to apply apply for the Individual and Cycling Enterprise based category awards. They also need to be Indian citizens.
Only Institutions or Organizations based out of Guwahati are eligible to apply for Institution / Organization based award category.
Only natives of any one of the eight North Eastern states of India are eligible to apply for the cycling enterprise based award categories. The organisers reseve the right to seek proof of residence or origin if required.
By submitting an application, participants represent and warrant that the information included in the application are true and accurate.
Applications will only be accepted through the online submission form. Emails, letters or personal requests will not be entertained.
The organizing team reserves the right to request documentary proof of critical information furnished by the contestants regarding their initiatives, programs or projects.
Any misrepresentation of facts will lead to automatic disqualification from the contest.
The organizing team is not responsible for any liabilities or losses arising out of, or due to, participation in the competition.
The decision of the Jury will be final.
Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts at Guwahati alone.

The North East Cycling Awards is an initiative of Pedal for a Change.
Pedal for a Change is a Guwahati based nonprofit organisation working towards promotion of Walking, Cycling and Public Transportation as climate change mitigation activities in the North Eastern region of India.
Our Vision
Our vision for the North East Cycling Awards is to make it a nationally recognized event that celebrates and recognizes the achievements of individuals and organizations in the cycling community across the region.
We hope to expand the North East Cycling Awards to a national level, we hope to create a platform for all people connected with cycling across India to come together, share their experiences and ideas, and inspire others to take up cycling. Going ahead annual event can be organised at a different city of a different region or state each year.
We recognize that this is a long-term vision that will require a lot of hard work, dedication, and support from individuals and organizations across India. However, we are committed to making this vision a reality and to promoting the message of cycling and sustainable transportation across the country. We believe that the North East Cycling Awards can be a catalyst for change and a platform for creating a more sustainable and livable future for all.
